"The Great Debate: War in Iraq"
February 22, 12 p.m - 3:30 p.m.Location: NVCC's Main Stage area, 750 Chase Parkway, WaterburyNVCC will host an all-inclusive debate on issues relating to the War in Iraq for anyone interested in learning about or discussing the various points of view. The guest debaters are Dr. James Jay Carafano, Assistant Director for the Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Institute for International Studies of Heritage Foundation in Washington D.C, and Dr. Michael Schwartz, Professor of Sociology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and author of numerous scholarly works on the war, including the book 'War Without End: The Iraq Debacle in Context.' Middle Eastern refreshments will be served at 12 p.m. prior to the beginning of the debate. For more information contact the Behavioral and Social Science division at (203) 596-2101. Debate is free and open to the public.

2/25/08 The Students for a Culture of Peace are co-sponsoring "10 Perfect" with the Black Students Union, and the Hispanic Students Union. The play is an one man performance by Patrick Sims which is a story of the only survivor of a lynching that will be performed onstage from 12:00-1:15 followed by discussion time until 2:00pm.

Conscience Conversations is part of the Unity series put on by the Black Students Union which also being co sponsored by SCOP and the Hispanic Students Union.

Our proposed discussions/activities are as follows:

3/5/08 bake sale/pin sale in prism lounge:all members are invited to bring in baked goods for the sale, and find time to help out with the actual sale and/or help to inform students about the club.

3/7/08 Christine Albino would like to have a movie in the cafe west called "A Soldiers Pay" that shows the treatment of our soldiers during war and when they arrive back home.

3/26/08 Immigration Workshop held by United for a Fair Economy is tentatively being set up during the SGA Meeting at 4:00 pm

3/29/08 Unity Film Series co sponsored by SCOP and the Black & Hispanic Students Unions is tentatively proposed to show the first film this year: "Uprooted: Refugee of Global Economy" followed by discussion The film series are generally shown in E430.

Hey folks in the New England/New York area, I just wanted to send out a head's up that I'll be heading to the northeast at the end of the month and singing at an antiwar event in Providence, Rhode Island on Saturday, March 1st (details will be up at http://www.davidrovics.com as soon as I know them). If anybody else within a few hundred miles of Providence might be inclined to organize a local show, or if you know of something interesting happening in your area that weekend or thereabouts, I'd love to hear from you! I need to know in the next week or so if I might be performing elsewhere in the region when I go out there, so please email or call soon if you got ideas...Hope to see you on the road and in the streets!--David
